SHEER tule, WORN LEATHER, AND a gallery opening under sonoma sunshine.
FOR SARAH GIESENHAGEN, FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF THE BUREAU, DESIGN EXTENDS INTO THE WAY SHE GATHERS PEOPLE.
FOR THE OPENING OF VERDANT PHENOMENA, HER GROUP EXHIBITION IN THE GARDEN OF HER SONOMA HOME, WE APPROACHED HER LOOK AS PART OF THAT WORLD.
SARAH SHARED OUR COLLABORATION IN DOMINO’S “THE UNEXPECTED SEATING I LOVE TO USE WHEN I’M HOSTING OUTDOORS.”
My go-to outfit when entertaining outside: In Northern California, my outfit has to have layers and most typically a shoe that can take gravel and dust. For a recent event, I got to sit in the side car and let my good friend Rachel Beth Anderson make the final call on my styling. I provided a handful of options and she brought some, too, including pieces from her deep vintage collection. The outcome was a sheer celadon dress by Kamperett over a nude slip with my vintage leather jacket and light tan ostrich cowboy boots, plus vintage jewelry from her collection amassed in Brooklyn over the last 15 years.

THE PLEASURE WAS IN THE CONTRAST, THE DELICACY OF the DRESS AGAINST LEATHER WITH A HISTORY. SOMETHING ROMANTIC AND A LITTLE UNDONE, WITH BOOTS THAT COULD CARRY HER ACROSS THE GRAVEL and stay grounded in the moment. The perfect combination.
